Away Team Gear

Text goes here talking about the types of gear generally, maybe a link to a screenshot of the character paperdoll showing where gear is equipped, and then other blabbering about how you acquire gear.

Category pages on the bottom being an actual listing of all of the gear items in this category and largely ignored and not addressed on this page as they'll be repeated on the bottom of the sub-category pages if needed.

Armor

Depending on model, armor reduces various types of incoming damage and/or boosts the wearer's abilities in various ways. Depending on player preference, armor can be shown or hidden by right-clicking on it while it is equipped.

Devices

Devices include food, shield boosters, power cells (for boosting energy weapon damage), and other useful items. Most of them are consumed upon use.

Shields

Away team personnel are normally protected by personal shields, which protect their health until the shields are depleted by weapons fire. A depleted shield can be restored by various Engineering abilities, using a Shield Charge device, or by allowing it to naturally recharge over time. Different shields have different recharge times and maximum strengths.

Kits

Unlike bridge officers, whose ground abilities come through trained skills, players get their ground abilities by equipping kits. Kits can only be equipped by someone in their field--Tactical captains can use Tactical kits, and so on. Kits often look like a utility belt plus various accessories; they can be shown or hidden by right-clicking on them while they are equipped. They are usually issued as mission rewards or are purchased from vendors; they do not generally appear as loot drops. Some kits are Exposes or Exploits, some modify the environment in some way, and some apply buffs or debuffs to allies or enemies, respectively.

Weapons

Away teams normally beam down with weapons for defense. Bridge officers are normally issued a standard-issue phaser or disruptor before joining you; these can be replaced with various upgrades, which often drop as loot but can also be purchased from various vendors. Weapons usually have a secondary fire function which is on a cooldown; this function does bonus damage and is tagged as either an Expose or an Exploit.
